Migrating to online QB from QB Pro 2016 (UK versions)

Hello,

I have just purchased a subscription to QB online as we need to submit VAT returns from now on.  I am currently using a copy of QB Pro 2016.  I spoke to a customer help advisor yesterday who advised me to download a trial version of the newest release and then transfer it over.  When I tried to restore my QB Pro 2016 file though, that won't work on the newest desktop version.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get to the final destination with this please?

Thanks,.

Your company is located in UK, correct? Can you still run QBD 2016 on your machine? If the answer is yes, why did  the support team ask you to upgrade your version to the latest version (i.e. QBD 2021)? It's pointless because you still need a third-party service to convert your data to QBO.

Keep in mind, you can still use your QBD UK version on your machine and use an MTD bridging app to file your VAT return as another option.

Hello,

In honesty, I have no idea so I suppose a different version of the question is: I have QB Pro 2016 and am happy using it.  I have QBO for the VAT compliance, so what is the best way to use QBO for accounting from the position I am in now?  I have no problem not using a trial version elsewhere, but essentially want to move from Pro 2016 to QBO.

Thanks!

Hello Cat83, thanks for posting on the Community page, when you say it doesn’t work, can you tell us more please? Do you get any error messages or anything? It should update once you open the 2016 qbw file into 2021, when you use the admin password.
