Question

Movemybooks is useless

After dragging my heels on any move from QB desktop (premier 2021) to QBonline - I called support last week and they said I can test drive the online system for free so I set up an account and also logged into Movemybooks to import my desktop system so I could see what happens and play with it.

The result is honestly such a disaster I do not know what to do next - I feel completely sick with worry.

1 - No stock items have moved .  We have hundreds of stock items with description and values  ...no value in at all for ANY of this on the balance sheet ?

2 - My foreign customers , suppliers and bank accounts have all been transferred in as GBP and its a complete mess.  Everything needs voiding  and re-creating .  No way to exclude FX entries in the movemybooks system - its all or nothing.

3 - My balance sheet is out of whack by several hundred thousand pounds as something is wrong with the VAT total.  QBD shows VAT liability around £ 24000.  QBO now shows this as minus £ 311503!!!

4 - I have a list of items that need looking at following the movemybooks conversion - I have no clue what I am meant to do with this.  example my US$ bank account is zero in QBD and £ 11153.44 in QBO - the conversion just invented £ 11153 out of thin air...

5 - None of my open purchase orders transferred....

I am a small business with no one to help me with this.  I really do not know what to do next.

I cannot move and put my business on hold for days or weeks while I get everything into line ....

Can I delete the online test file and start again somehow  ?   I will need to do this when I decide to do this for real in the future.  Support suggested this would be no issue...

Should I have prepped better (i.e. switched on multicurrency , switched on track stock items ??).

Is it better to ignore movemybooks and create EVERYTHING from scratch ??

Hi skinnerneil, thanks for your post. We're sorry to see you've had difficulties with the migration process. Due to limitations with the conversion between products, the data that is able to be migrated to QuickBooks Online is restricted to the chart of accounts, customer data, supplier data and individual transactions for the current and previous accounting years. All of the nominal/general ledger, customer and supplier balances will be the same as in QB DT. This means that certain features, such as stock and foreign currency amounts will not be carried over. Instead, foreign currency balances will be converted to home currency. We'd recommend checking out the post conversion tasks for your next steps. If you'd prefer, you can also wipe your QBO data to start over (please note, the subscription must be within the first 90 days of the start date) by following our guide here

No the nominal ledger balances are NOT the same.

My balance sheet as of 15/03/2023 on QBD states shareholder funds as £ 566825

The imported and converted QBO is now showing minus  £ 21501

The VAT control on QBD is £ 27204 and QBO is £ 615531 !!!!!!  Its like nothing on QBD has been correctly flagged as filed for VAT ???

Retained earnings is the other HUGE difference ....

There are also lots of other anomalies - mostly FX issues.

e.g. US$ bank account - balance on QBD is ZERO.

New balance on QBO is £ 11249 ??!!

I mean I do not know where to start now with this.... the FX I might be prepared to unpick - but the VAT is pretty bloody important !

in the same boat as yourself

accounts in complete mess within QBO following migration from Desktop.

have had to use a trial version of QB Desktop to get everything back on track following the termination of Desktop, this is only valid for 30 days and the best advice I got was 'Oh well you could get another 30 day trial when yours runs out'!!

the support is horrendous,

The amount of time, work and anxiety this has caused and not out of the woods yet.

@skinnerneil

You may consider purchasing another 3rd party service to convert data with multicurrency and purchase order.

March 16, 2023

WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO DO THAT ??

QB / Intuit needs to solve this issue.  See my previous post - my balance sheet is completely cocked up.

FX isues notwithstanding - MMB has NOT moved my trial balances / nominal values correctly at all.

VAT control and retained earnings are UTTERLY wrong by hundreds of thousands of pounds

At least recommend me a 3rd party ?
