I have ported this across from old PC using Laplink. However when I use QB it throws a Crash Com Error. I am tempted to reinstall from the PC but wonder what I will lose in updates

Hi there, @Macro.

I'd be glad to share insights about moving your QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2012 to new computers.

Once you install the program to another PC, let's make sure that you meet the minimum requirements to run QuickBooks Desktop. This way, you won't get any error messages when installing the product.

After installing QuickBooks Desktop, you can still use its available offline features. In addition, you won't lose any latest updates in your current version once the product is installed to your new computer. Please note that using discontinued versions won't receive live technical support and the latest critical security patches and updates.

Aside from that, you may check out the resources from this link as your guide while tracking your QBDT entries in the future: QuickBooks Desktop help articles.

It's my pleasure to share this information with you today. If you have follow-up questions, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm just a few clicks away to help. Keep safe!

@Macro

You can try to reinstall it on your new machine. Did you encounter any issue?

I haven't tried installing from the CD - my concern was that by going back to the 2012 CD I will lose all the updates from then to whenever QB stopped updating that edition
