I voided an incorrect invoice which was raised after a client asked for it to be changed and resent as two seperate invoices.

however, what they hadn’t told me was they had sent it to their accounts department who are now asking for a credit note as it’s been entered into their system.

how do I raise a credit note for a voided invoice?

Hello, Martinuk.

Thanks for posting here in the Community. We can run an Audit log report to generate the details of the voided invoice. Once you're able to retrieve the invoice details, you'll need to recreate an invoice with the same information entered on the voided invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Click the + New button.
  2. Pick a Credit note
  3. Select a Customer.
  4. Enter the credit note details.
  5. Tap Save and close

Once done, apply the credit note to an invoice, follow the below steps:

  1. Click the + New button.
  2. Select Receive payment.
  3. Pick a Customer.
  4. Go to the Outstanding Transactions section and tap the open invoice you want to apply the credit note to.
  5. In the Credits section, select the credit notes you want to apply.
  6. For the open invoice in the Payment column, enter how much of the credit you want to apply.
  7. Leave the Payment method, Reference no, Deposit to, and Amount received fields blank.
  8. Fill in the other necessary information and ensure that the total is correct after applying the credit note.
  9. Hit Save and close.

For more information about the credit note feature, see this article: Create and apply credit notes or delayed credits in QuickBooks Online.

I'd appreciate any update from you. Because I want to make sure this has been taken care of. If you have any other concerns, you can always post them anytime here. I'll be sure to help. Take care!
