Upgrade my account to allow me to complete myVAT

QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) doesn't have another edition unlike QuickBooks Online (QBO) that allows you to upgrade. If you mean upgrading to QBO, you're unable to do that as well since its structure is different. QBO uses a double-entry accounting system while QBSE does not.

If you're planning to use QBO, you can sign up for a plan. Then, set up your company and enter your customers, vendors, items, and your transactions. That way, you can generate and submit VAT returns to HMRC.
