Question

When I open the QB desktop program I get a message. "Opps! QuckBooks has encountered an error and needs to close. Any unsaved work will be lost".

The desktop program is on a Surface Laptop, it has worked very well until a few days ago, I suspect after a major Windows 10 update, although I have seen the same issue on here from a few years ago, I have tried all the ways other people have suggested, like downloading the install app but to no avail. I wonder if anyone can help? Thanks.

Welcome to the Community. It would be my pleasure to help you get to the bottom of this strange behavior going on when opening the QuickBooks program.

 

Let's first make sure to update the program to the latest release to ensure you can install any updates and maintenance releases.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to: https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products.
  2. Choose your country.
  3. Select a product.
  4. Choose your version.
  5. Click Search.
  6. .Click Download.
  7. When the download completes, double-click to install the update (please note you may need to restart Windows after the installation finishes).

Once done, you can proceed with following the detailed instructions from the support link I recommend on this (scroll down to number 1 below See Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release):

 

Resolve Problems Opening QuickBooks Desktop or your Company File.
