Question

Can any one send me the procedure to categorize bank entries. I have tried to categorize a couple of bank entries, but I know I have missed a step?

Hi peterfischer5717,

Thanks for posting in the Community! I'd be glad to walk you through on how to categorise a bank transaction in QuickBooks Online.

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions
  2. Select the transaction to expand the view.
  3. Select the correct supplier/customer, category and GST of the transaction.
  4. Then click Add.

If you have a transaction entered in QuickBooks Online and it matched with your downloaded transaction, you can match them. This links them together so you don't get duplicates.

Here's how to match a transaction in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to Bookkeeping, select Transactions, then select Bank transactions
  2. On the For Review tab, select the transaction to expand the view.
  3. Review the Matching records found in QuickBooks. This is the possible matching transaction you already entered in QuickBooks.
  4. Select the link next to each match to get more details.
  5. Make sure this is the correct match. In particular, review the Deposit to, Payment method, or Bank account fields on forms for the existing transaction in QuickBooks.
  6. If this is the correct match, close the open transaction.
  7. Select Match.
