Hi MattyA,

There was a reported product investigation with regard to expense categories are not showing in the QuickBooks Mobile App iOS version. A fix has been deployed recently by the engineers. Please visit the App store to update the QuickBooks Online Accounting app to version 24.05.9, followed by signing in again to your QuickBooks account to view the Expense categories.

To resolve this, I suggest refreshing the app or uninstall and re-install them.

For Android devices, please perform these steps:

1. From your phone's settings, go to Apps. The option varies by device.
2. Select the QuickBooks app from the list.
3. Click Storage and then hit Clear Data.

For iOS devices, follow the instructions below:

1. Go to the menu at the top right corner of your device.
2. Choose Help & Feedback.
3. Select Refresh Data.
4. Click Refresh.

If the problem continues, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the app to resolve any installation or update issues that cause the crashing.

In the meantime, please access your QuickBooks Online account via website browser for now to check recorded expense transactions, OR Login to QuickBooks Online App via iPad.

Post again in the Community if you have further concerns about accessing your expense categories. I am around to help you.

Let's work together to restore the Categories section in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app, Rhys.

The missing Categories section in the QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app is due to several factors. Allow me to share the reasons behind this, which I'll list below.

  • Outdated or incompatible version:
    •  iOS devices need to run on iOS 9.3 or later
    • Android devices should be 4.1 or higher.
  • Excessive cache data - Over time, the app's cache data can become corrupted, leading to freezing or force closing issues.
  • Incomplete or failed installation or update - If the app wasn't installed correctly or the update was interrupted, it can result in crashes

To resolve this, I suggest ensuring the device operating system is compatible with the QBO app to avoid system crashes or glitches.

If the program the operating system is supported, I recommend clearing the app's cache. Doing so prevents system issues, frees up storage space, resolves loading or syncing issues, and improves performance.

In the meantime, I suggest working on your QBO tasks via a browser to avoid any issues.

Additionally, I've added these resources to assist you in making sure you have the best experience when using QuickBooks Online (in web browsers or mobile devices) and learn the features available for iPhone, iPad, Android Phone, and Android tablet:

This thread is always open if you have additional questions or concerns about creating transactions or navigating the mobile app on your iOS or Android device. I'll make sure to get back to you as soon as possible.

Same thing here.  It started exactly when the latest update was installed.  I'll start a ticket with support also, but I don't have a lot of hope.  Starting to look for another accounting package.  I am a sole proprietor, and not having reliable access to my account when I'm not in front of a computer is just not workable.

June 5, 2024

Ditto. They also put a notification out that they are increasing their annual fee by 25% just at the same time that they broke the app.
The app is also useless when trying to quick add something or that rules that you have online are ignored in the app.

May 31, 2024

I’m having the same issue since the app update.

June 1, 2024

i am also experiencing this issue. it started with the last update friday may 24th. i placed a ticket may 29th and was told it would be prioritized and that other tickets were also created about the issue.

there has been an update as of 3 hours ago for the app. i have updated but have seen no change of being able to categorize my income and expenses

hoping this issue gets resolved soon or i may be looking for a new program elsewhere..

If it's iOS, please note that there's an ongoing investigation about Expense Categories not appearing in the Mobile App (INV-105679).In the meantime , please log in to your QBO account using a supported website browser and access the Categories part from there. Additionally, consider reaching out to our Customer Support Team to be added to the list of affected users. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click Help.

  3. Tap the Search tab and select Contact Us.

  4. Enter the INV #105679 and hit Continue

  5. Choose a way to connect with a live support agent:

  • Call Us. M-F, 8:30 AM-6:30 PM, AET.

If you're using an Android gadget, excessive cache data may lead to unusual system responses. To fix this, you can clear the app's cache to refresh it and remove any errors causing the problem you're experiencing. Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Go to Menu and choose Settings.
  2. Tap Refresh Data.
  3. Hit Yes to confirm.

For now, you can use a web browser to view the Expense Categories.

I'll be monitoring this conversation closely, Timtim16. I want to ensure you get past this. If you have additional troubles, I'm always here to assist.
