A Canadian company and a US Company linked in Quickbooks online

I have a client using the Canadian Quickbooks online "Essentials" .  They have now started a US company and are going to buy a second subscription and use Quickbooks online for it as well.  Can the two related companies be linked the same way as you can link 2 Canadian companies in Quickbooks?  If not, could we create a second Canadian company and just do all transactions in US dollars?  Thanks!

I'm happy you and your client are using QuickBooks to help streamline your businesses. I'll be happy to share more information about how the subscription works. 

 

Since the US and Canadian QuickBooks are separate, you won't be able to link them together. The good thing is QuickBooks has a multi-currency feature which allows you to set USD as your home-currency on and Canadian QBO account. All the transactions are processed according to the home-currency on the account. This gives you peace of mind of not having to manually convert your transactions from CAD to USD.

 

I encourage you to learn more about the multi-currency feature using this link here: Turn on and use multicurrency. Otherwise, here's some helpful info: 

 

To create a new QuickBooks Online company:

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/ca/pricing/.
  2. Select either Buy Now or Free 30-day trial for the product you wish to use (EasyStart, Essentials, Plus).
  3. Select Buy Now or select Try it free to subscribe to QuickBooks Online.

To add company subscriptions:

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/ca/pricing/ .
  2. Select either Buy Now or Free 30-day trial for the product you wish to use (EasyStart, Essentials, Plus).
  3. Select Already have an account? Sign in.
  4. Sign in with your previous or current user ID and password for other company subscriptions. Follow the onscreen prompts to set up a new subscription under your existing log in.

If your client has to open a new QBO US account, ensure to click the Buy button to get the discounted price for up to 6 months. If they purchase from the trial account, they have to pay the regular price.
