Transactions that were downloaded from Credit cards for example, includes a tax amount.  We need to have the tax get calculated automatically based on the category assigned to the transaction

Hi Sriyani,

Thanks for reaching out here.  Welcome!  Your banking is a vital part of your books and QuickBooks Online makes downloading your transactions a breeze.  I'd be happy to assist!

QuickBooks matches your downloaded transactions with items you've entered in your books.  However, if a match can't be found, it creates a new transaction for you.  Based on the information you've provided, this seems to be where you're looking to add a sales tax code.  In this situation, you'll click on the transaction to expand the view and then select edit.  This will open the transaction and allow you to enter the applicable sales tax code.  This would also indicate the transaction hasn't been previously entered in your books.  Here's a helpful guide for your reference, to assist with categorizing and matching transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Should you require additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.  We'd love to work with you directly and ensure you're able to accomplish your QuickBooks goals as soon as possible!
