Question

Attempting to add expense, receive error "Something's not quite right. You must select an account for this transaction." I have an account selected in Payment account.

I followed the tutorial video to add a new Expense (old transactions that have to be manually added).  I successfully added one, but the next Expense I attempted gave me the error message in the question.  Cannot Save or Save and close.

Digging through, I haven't found any reported issues about this error. For now, let's try to do some browser troubleshooting to resolve this. We need check if this is a caching problem that's causing it.

 

Unexpected issues with the features in QuickBooks, like creating expenses, are sometimes associated with the amount of data stored in the cache. This is because a regular browser will constantly overwrite itself and will not remove history unless done manually.

 

Private browsing will not save any history, so it's a great place to identify issues in the browser. Use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

 

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

 

If the problem doesn't come up, clear the cache to resolve browser issues in QBO. You can also use a different browser and see if the issue persists there.

Hello,

 

Thank you for your suggestions.  I attempted to add the expense using a private browser session and received the same error.  I also tried in a different browser and received the same error.

 

The set up of other expenses looks exactly how I'm inputting it so it's very odd.

 

Any additional insight would be appreciated.

I want to make sure this gets reported to the right department. You already tried all possible solutions for this, so I highly recommend contacting our support team this time.

 

They can create an escalation request to our engineers to review and fix this problem in QuickBooks Online. To contact us, follow the steps below:

 

  1. Go to the (?) Help menu, then select the Search tab.
  2. At the bottom, select Contact us.
  3. Enter the keyword Account Management and Billing in the What can we help you with? box.
  4. On the next screen, scroll down to the Choose a way to connect with us section.
  5. Choose Chat with us to initiate a discussion with a live agent.
