Build Assemblies QTY Needed and Shortage Report

I am trying to build an assembly

  1. I go to Build Assembly CF3. I put in the QUANTITY TO BUILD and the QTY NEEDED column it shows 0. (It even shows 0 when I first open the window, before I put in the QTY to Build).
  2. In the item CF3 edit item box from Inventory>Item List>CF3 the item shows all the correct quantities needed. PLEASE NOTE: not all items are shown but trust me the components needed qty is correct and present.
  3. I get the warning box "Quickbooks does not have enough components on hand to build"
  4. I press the "Show Shortage"
  5. The shortage item listed is the assembly item itself. ????????

 

What can I do? I already looked at another thread similar to this but it was confusing at best.

Hi Maverick2,

 

I'm glad you've taken the opportunity to reach out to Community!  It's great to see that you're using the wonderful feature to build assemblies in QuickBooks Desktop.  Having a notification indicating there's not enough components on hand would definitely cause concern.  I'd be happy to help!

 

Initially, I suggest checking your stock by going to Reports and then choose Inventory.  It's always a good idea to track your inventory parts for the items you build.

 

Once you've reviewed your inventory you can assemble your product.  Here's how:

 

1. From the Inventory menu, select Build Assemblies
2. Choose the product from the Assembly Item drop-down

3. Review the quantity available at the top
Note: Quantity available is how many you have on hand, minus what’s reserved for pending builds

4. Add the Quantity to Build. The numbers in Qty Needed column updates depending on the amount you want to build
5. Select the "Maximum number you can add on this bill date" checkbox at the bottom of your components list to see how many of this item you can build based on your current stock.

6. If you use another assembly item to build this product, check Automatically build required subassemblies. This lets QuickBooks build the assembly that you also use as a component.

7. When finished hit Save and Close

Thank you for your post, but it really doesn't answer the questions I listed. I know how to create assemblies as outlined in your response but that's not the issue.

Please reference the screenshots in the original post for clarification. Here again are the comments:

1. Quantity needed in the build assembly window shows everything as zero. The item properties have quantities needed. There is something wrong with the build assembly window (see screenshot).

2. The Quantity Needed column does not update with needed parts - it stays zero.

2. When I click "Show Shortage" it does not show components that are short, it only lists the actual assembly item I am trying to build.
