Question

Can you export your inventory list to excel, make adjustments to SKU, Purchase Cost, etc., import back into QBO overwriting the info already there?

Hi Locallux,

Welcome to Community!  Having the ability to overwrite current information when importing your items is a great question!  I'm sure others will benefit from it as a well.  QuickBooks Online has the wonderful feature of importing and exporting your data seamlessly.  I'd be happy to provide more insight here!

When you export your products and services to an excel spreadsheet you can select the option to 'enable editing'.  Once you've made the adjustments to the information, I recommend using the 'save as' option that provides you with the ability to keep the original spreadsheet for your records, should something seem out of sorts during the importing process.  After making the necessary changes and saving your spreadsheet, you're ready to import your data.  Here's how:

1. In QuickBooks Online, click on the Gear in the top right and select Import Data

2. Click on the Products and Services tile

3. Select Browse to locate the file and hit Open

4. Choose Next

5. Your Field represents the headers on your spreadsheet.  Use the drop-down ▼ to select the one that matches a field in QuickBooks Online

Note: Cells highlighted in red means it's invalid. Make any necessary changes then Scroll to the bottom and check the box to Overwrite all values for each product or service with the same name. Make sure everything's correct because this can't be undone.

7. Select Import

You're all set and have successfully updated your products and services in QuickBooks Online!

Take care and have a great day!
