Cannot open a file that is necessary to process tax forms

Hey everyone,

My office manager and I are just butting our heads at this. As soon as we click into our accounts payable we get a warning/error message window pop up with the following "cannot open a file that is necessary to process tax forms". It doesn't let us proceed after this into accounts payable.  We did contact support (unfortunately, that's another issue entirely that I won't get in to) and the only option they gave us so far is to install the newest Quickbooks Desktop 2023 version (we were using the 2021 version).  We are still receiving this message with the new version.  Is there something that my office manager may be missing or anyone know a solution?

Hi mp1101,

It's a pleasure to see you here in Community.  Welcome!  It's important that you're able to open your files effortlessly and accomplish your QuickBooks goals in a timely fashion.  I'd be happy to assist!

QuickBooks offers various solutions to situations that arise when opening company files, whether it's a firewall, incorrect permissions or other settings.  The first would be to update to the latest release for which you've already done.  There are times when the error may only pop up on your first attempt and giving it a second try can sometimes result in success.  I also suggest these steps;

1. Close QuickBooks

2. Open QuickBooks again and Run as Administrator

3. Try to open the file again.

Here's a helpful guide with additional options, for your reference.  I also recommend running the QuickFix my program to fix common errors by following this link

If the issue persists, please contact us.  It would be our pleasure to work with you directly and look further into this from our end and ensure you're back to business as soon as possible!

Feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions.  We're here for you!
