Hello sdoligos,

Congrats on your first post in the Community. Being able to save your QuickBooks data is essential as it allows you to analyze and process your data outside of QuickBooks. Rest assured, I'll be glad to share more info and help point you towards the right direction.

QuickBooks provides the option to export files to Excel, however, based on what you've described I see you're having issues with saving the file outside of QuickBooks. If that's the case, it's important to note that the program is designed to bring the data/file out of your account as a .csv file which is compatible with Excel. Other file types may cause issues when saving them within Excel. For reference, here's how you would export a report to Excel in QuickBooks:

  1. Click on the Gear ⚙ icon from the tool bar.
  2. Under Tools, select Export Data.
  3. On the Reports tab, set the date range.
  4. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by toggling the slider.
  5. Select Export to Excel.

From here, you'll be prompted with confirmation that the data has been exported. Are you getting this confirmation on your end? If so, this means that QuickBooks has fulfilled its purpose of exporting that file type.

I look forward to hearing back from you. I'll be one message away. 🙂
