how do i change the class on a paycheque for a payroll earnings item?

Welcome to the QuickBooks community! I love that you're using QuickBooks Desktop to manage your payroll. It's a great system that gives you a bit more of a hands-on approach with paying your employees, including adding classes to certain earning items.

 

Changing the class on the earning item is easy and can be done right from the Review Or Change Pay Cheque window. When you're running your payroll, click the Open Pay Cheque Detail button above the employee list on the Enter Payroll Information window. This will take you to where you can make changes to the pay cheque and in the Earnings section is where you can add or change a class related to an earning item.

 

The class associated with the Earning Item is also related to the class assigned to the employee. Don't worry, it's still easy to change. Here are the steps to change it on the employee profile.

 

  1. Select Employees from the top menu.
  2. Choose Employee Centre.
  3. Double-click the name of the employee to edit.
  4. Select the Payroll Info tab.
  5. Choose or change the selection in the Class drop down menu.
  6. Click OK to save.
