Chart of Accounts issues with numbers not generating

I have turned on everything in settings - also turned on SHOW NUMBERS and even went incognito, and still my COA numbers are not showing.

As well, I turned on multi currency, (CAD as home currency) and it should have automatically generated a new COA called: Exchange Gains and Loss

Any idea what is going on?

Hi  TiltGrind Cremulator,

Welcome to the Community. Recording account numbers is a great way to keep your chart of accounts organized. Being able to visualize the exchange Gains and Loss account is essential to ensure that your books are balanced. QuickBooks Online is an excellent program that offers the ability to record the account numbers of your accounts and track your exchange Gains and Loss. I'd be happy to provide you with some information on this.

When you activate the account numbers in the settings, they don't automatically appear by default in the chart of accounts. QuickBooks gives you the option of manually recording account numbers using any digits of your choice. Let me guide you through the steps.

  1. Click on Accounting tab on the left navigation menu.
  2. Select Chart of accounts.
  3. You'll see an empty column Number.
  4. Click on the drop-down menu of any account on the right and then Edit.
  5. You'll be able to record the account number > once entered, click on Save and close.

Regarding the exchange Gain and Loss account, it's created once the multicurrency option is turned on. However, you can't see it yet. To display it in the chart of accounts, you'll need to record a transaction with a multicurrency customer.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help.
