I only have QB essentials,  how can I use  categories without the class list

Hi 5120,

 

Welcome to Community!  Having the ability to use categories for your products and services is a great way to keep your books organized.  With QuickBooks Online you're just a few steps away from creating your first category.  I'd be happy to show you how!

 

To create categories follow these steps:

 

1. Click on the Gear in the top right and then All Lists

2. Select Product Categories

3. Hit New and enter the description

4. When finished, click Save

 

You may want to add a category to an existing product or service, here's how:

 

1. Go to Sales from the left menu and select Products and Services

2. Find the product or service you'd like to categorize

3. Select Edit from the Action column

4. From the Category ▼ dropdown, choose an existing category from the list or click + Add New to create a new one

5. Save and close when completed
