complete guide to Periodic inventory for quick books desktop premier

new to quick books, we would like to setup a Periodic inventory in Quick books desktop Premier, all we have is our starting inventory total, we have our inventory at many locations, need a guide on how to start this setup, we just want to use inventory dollar valve and not setup inventory items, any help on this would be mush appreciated.
