I need to convert sage 50 to QB Desktop but I can only see options for the United States. Is this not an option for Canadian Customers?

Also I have seen an option for Canada to switch to QB online, but I specifically need it to be desktop as we don't have an online subscription

Good evening, juliea9,

Thanks for turning to the Community for support. QuickBooks Desktop is a great software that can help you keep track of your finances. You can purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data file from Sage to QB Desktop. This link will take you to our QuickBooks Desktop Apps.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out to us, we're here to help!

@juliea9

Contact me in private and we can help to convert your data to QB Desktop.

The following is a list of what is converted:

  • Chart of Accounts
  • Customers List
  • Jobs List
  • Vendors List
  • Employees List
  • Other Names
  • Items List
  • Assembly Builds
  • Inventory Quantities and Values
  • Invoices
  • Customer Payments
  • Credit Memo
  • Sales Receipts
  • Bills
  • Vendor Credits
  • Vendor Payments
  • Checks
  • Journal Entries
  • Item Receipts
  • Inventory Adjustments
  • Liability Adjustments
  • Paychecks (as Journal Entries)
  • Payroll Liability Checks
  • Sales Tax Payments
  • Transfers
  • Estimates
  • Sales Orders
  • Purchase Orders

What we don’t convert?
  • Bank Reconciliation (You will need to do a single bank reconciliation after the conversion. We will send you instructions to do this.)
  • The conversion is completed on accrual-basis. If you are using cash-accounting, your accountant will need to add adjustments prior to using QuickBooks.
  • Paychecks are converted as Journal Entries (Importing Paychecks is not supported by QuickBooks)
  • Employee YTD information
  • Employee Payroll setup data is not converted (Sick Pay, Vacation, Direct Deposit information, Pay rates, Tax setup including Withholdings, Deductions, etc.)
  • Individual employee wage or deduction information
  • Custom templates
  • Jobs are not attached to transactions. Job Costing is not converted.
  • Budgets
  • Fixed Asset Items (This is only applicable if your Sage 50 data file is linked to Sage 50 Fixed Assets)
  • Work Tickets
  • Posting and Non-posting transactions after the current date are not converted
  • Closed or partially closed Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, and Estimates
  • Sage 50 handles inventory differently compared to QuickBooks. You may need to add adjustments in the data file prior to using QuickBooks.
  • QuickBooks handles Sales tax differently compared to Sage 50 and you may need to make Sales Tax Adjustments prior to using QuickBooks
  • Sales Tax items are converted to QuickBooks but Customer Sales Tax defaults are not assigned to customers.
  • The default conversion converts all years of unpurged transactional data from Sage 50 to QuickBooks. If you want to convert a subset of the data, you will need to run the Purge Wizard in Sage 50 on a copy of the data file prior to sending us the backup for conversion.
  • Attachments are not converted because the QuickBooks SDK does not support it at this time
  • Advanced Inventory features such as serial numbers, lots, etc. do not convert. You will need to set it up in QuickBooks after the conversion.
  • We try to map every available field in Sage 50/Peachtree to the corresponding field in QuickBooks. In some cases, fields are not compatible and are not transferred over. You will need to manually enter such fields after the conversion. Examples of such fields are vendor default account numbers, preferred vendors for inventory, multiple shipping addresses for customers, and default Customer Sales Tax settings.
  • All conversions are completed using the default settings. Additional customizations may be possible if requested ahead of time. Additional programming fees will apply.

Did you ever get anywhere with this?

We called QB and was simply told you can't do it with the Canadian desktop version.

@THRobinson

You have to purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

So, no app to download... you have to send the file off and have it done for you then?
