Credit Memos messed up inventory

Does anybody have a hint for my problem? I have a whole bunch of credit memos for item X. The credit memo reads: qty 900 - Rate 0.25 - Tax G - Amount $225

In the inventory ledger, it reads:
qty 900 - Rate 2,307.90 - Amount 2,077,000

WHY? In the inventory itself, the item is listed with 3.40. No 0.25. Not 2,307.90. I am dumbfounded, but surely there must be an easy explanation?
