Hello ry6,

This is a great question, and I can see how having QuickBooks Self-Employed's mileage and expenses features work together like this would make working with the data and filing your taxes at the end of the year that much simpler. I can go over how these two features work.

QuickBooks Self-Employed's goal is to offer simplified income, expense, tax, and mileage tracking for entrepreneurs so that you can more easily work with the data to file taxes. Using the built-in transaction features and reporting, you can have confidence in the numbers you're reporting to the government. At this time, however, the mileage tracking and expense features don't work together to automatically create proration for auto expenses. You can work out those calculations for yourself to track them in your books or if you're not sure how, check in with an accountant to learn the best way to do this.

This is a great idea, though! I encourage you to submit it to our product development team by following these steps.

  1. Select the Assistant feature.
  2. Type and enter "feedback" into the chat window.
  3. Follow the prompts to leave your comments.

The feedback shared there is forwarded to the product team so they can take it into consideration as they continue to develop QuickBooks Self-Employed.

 Wishing you the best!
