hi lanyonhome-gmail,

Seeing new members in the QuickBooks Community always brightens my day, so welcome. QuickBooks has a robust inventory module to help keep you on track. It takes its job so seriously that it'll insist that you can't sell something before you had it as part of your inventory. I can help you straighten this out by walking you through adjusting dates.

To solve this, you must date the invoice after adding the item to your inventory or changing the starting date on the inventory item.

To edit the starting date on the item, follow these quick and easy steps:

  1. Go to the  Gear Icon on the top right-hand side.
  2. Select  Products and Services; you'll find it under the Lists column.
  3. Scroll down to the inventory item, click the Edit.
  4. On the Quantity on hand, select Starting value.
  5. Click the Got it button.
  6. Change the date under As of date.
  7. Click Save and Close.

You can now go back to creating your invoice. It may be necessary to clear your cache and cookies to refresh your inventory data.

Have a fantastic evening, and if you have any further questions, reach out.
