Error message: You must either enter the hours worked or compensation amounts... Happens when you have 1 person who has been paid and another who hasn't

Using QuickBooks Online Payroll makes it easy to pay your employees. Error messages can cause an interruption to your workflow, so I want to make sure you're able to bypass this the one you're receiving and finish running payroll. 

While running payroll, QuickBooks automatically selects all employees associated with the chosen pay schedule. This means that if you want to run payroll for only one or some of your employees, you'll need to deselect those that won't be paid. Once there is no check mark showing next to the names of the employees that you won't be running payroll for, you should have no difficulty clicking Preview Payroll and finish the process. 

If you still encounter the error message after de-selecting the appropriate employees, I recommend giving these browser troubleshooting steps a try. Once you've run through the list below, check back with payroll to see if you're still receiving the error message. 

• Clear your browser cache if you're using a browser

• Clear the app cache if you're using the QuickBooks Online app for Windows or Mac

• Try a browser if you're using the app

• Try a private browser window

• Try another browser type

• Make sure you're using a supported browser and system

• Reset your Internet or try on another computer or device
