Expensing Home Utilities

How can I record and pay a percentage of my home utility bills in QuickBooks Desktop?  I have found instructions where you just make journal entries to reflect the expense and allocate it to Owner's Equity, but I don't see how that expenditure is identified as for home utilities.

Hello BertP1,

Thanks for reaching out to us here.  Recording home office expenses must be accurate to avoid complications with the Canada Revenue Agency.  For this reason, I recommend speaking with an accounting professional for their expertise and best course of action.  If you don't have an accountant, we can help you locate a ProAdvisor in your local area.

In addition, I would like to advise you, to please be careful when you notice phone numbers being posted to connect with QuickBooks Support.  QuickBooks Support team members are easily recognizable, and contact information can be found here.  If you notice suspicious activity, you can report it by selecting the three dots to the right of the post, then select "Report Inappropriate Content" from the dropdown menu.

Please feel free to reach out again, if you have other questions.  We would be happy to help!
