Hi, I want to attach 'receipt snap' to bank transactions. I've read this can't be done automatically. If I match/update the transaction from the receipt image, does it update (or reconcile) the expense? It will be impossible to touch the transaction more than once. My goal is to eliminate 2019 receipts by attaching them to the transaction. I have a lot of receipts!

Hi there,

Carrying around a bunch of receipts is stressful, and it's so important that you have a better way to organize them. QuickBooks Online has an awesome receipts feature that allows you to manually upload receipts, or scan them using your mobile device straight into your QBO account. I'll explain how you can add them to your transactions in the bank feed, and what this means for your reconciliation process.

Follow the steps in this article for instructions on how to use the Receipts tab in QuickBooks Online: Manage your receipts in the Receipts tab

As explained in the article, you can add receipts by uploading them from your computer, or scan them using the QBO mobile app. Once uploaded, you can review, edit, or match receipts. Here's a breakdown of the options for you:

  • Select Review to edit the extracted information for the receipt. If there are multiple matches, selecting Review will allow you to choose the match you want.
  • Select Add if you want to create a new expense in QuickBooks with the receipt attached.
  • Select Match if you’re ready to match the receipt with an existing record in QuickBooks. Note: if an imported banking transaction and a receipt are both in For Review, QuickBooks won’t suggest a match until you select Add for one of them.

This will update your expense with the receipt attached, however you'll still have to follow the reconcile process in order to complete your monthly reconciliation. Here's how to do that when it comes time: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

I hope this helps clear things up for you. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our tech support team

Cheers.
