How can I apply the same tag(s) for multiple transactions? and how do I set that to be automatic?

Hello Hayan,

I love that you're making use of the new Tags feature in QuickBooks Self-Employed. This is a great way to keep your transactions organized, so it's important that you can make the most of it. Let me give you a hand.

To use the same tags on multiple transactions, you'll simply want to navigate to the Transactions tab and locate the transaction in question. Click the line to open up the details and use the Tags field to choose from the tags you've set up. If you need to set up new tags or adjust your existing tags you can hit Manage tags above the Tags field on your transaction, or by navigating to the Gear icon.

There isn't a way to automate this process - you'll have to manually add the tags for each transaction that they're required. I can see how this would be a handy feature to add though, as it'd definitely save you and other users a ton of time. Let our product development team hear your suggestions on an automated tags option by navigating to the Assistant, typing and entering "Feedback", and following the prompts to have your voice heard.

Let me know if you have further questions on this or other QuickBooks features. I'm here to help! Have a great week.

I need this too. Since Tags are new, I’m going back and tagging my transactions, but one at time? No thank you. I need to select multiple transactions and apply a tag to them all at once. I’m not about to start going line-by-line for historical tagging, that’s nuts. Need this NOW for tax time! Not everyone is sufficiently organized to tag things daily or weekly. Or even monthly. Or, in my case, at all!

Any update on this? It would be so handy for non-profit grants - to be able to tag expenses that have been reported on, so that they are not inadvertently moved and double counted anywhere.  Come on QBO - release the ability to bulk tag items!

Another example that developers from QB don't have a clue what users need, or what could be handy.

Even their own support realizes that such bulk feature is helpful for a lot of users, but I guess they don't have any feedback loop.

Plus QB does not read this support pages since topic is years open..

You can tag multiple entries at time by:

  1. Go to the Tags.
  2. Click the See all untagged transactions link.
  3. Select all transactions that you will be adding tags.
  4. Click Update tags, then select Add tags.
  5. Type in the tag that you want to assign.
  6. Click Apply.
