How to use a recurring transaction

Every time I click the drop down menu then click 'use' on the recurring transaction, it takes me to the journal entry. I am not sure how to 'use' the transaction because when I try to edit the date that does not change the balance in the bank account; it just changes the journal date.

QuickBooks Online is a great program that offers the ability to set up recurring transactions so that you can get back doing what you love.
