I cannot inactivate an account because the Chart of Accounts shows a balance, but the Balance Sheet has a zero balance.

I am trying to de-activate an account that is showing a zero balance on the Balance Sheet.  The Chart of Accounts is showing a balance.  I don't know how to correct this.

Hey JoCinchy,

Welcome to the Community! It's important that you're able to make accounts inactive that you no longer need. I can provide some information as to why there might still be a balance in your account.

Even though your report is showing a Zero balance, there might still be transactions in that account.  I would suggest verifying the account to make sure there are no transactions in the account in question. To do so, head to to Chart of accounts and select the account you wish to make inactive, click on Account history. If there are no transactions in the account I suggest doing some troubleshooting steps.

It may be browsing data on your system that is preventing the software from doing what it is supposed to do. Here are some steps to resolve issues that are caused by browsing data:

If you're still seeing a balance in the account, I recommend reaching out to the support team outside of the Community. They'll be able to verify your account details in a secure setting as well as view your screen to see what may be causing the issue. You can reach out to them using one of these methods:

Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat.
