Question

I have a transaction which has been recorded as both a credit card payment and an account transfer. How do I delete the account transfer?

Hello there Paul and welcome to the Community!

Ensuring that you've recorded your transactions accurately is great practice and will produce the best results in your books. Sometimes mistakes happen and transactions get recorded twice. This one is an easy fix and I'd love to explain how.

To delete the transfer that you've recorded you'll want to navigate to the Magnifying Glass icon - otherwise known as the search function. If this transfer was recorded recently you should see it from the Recent Transactions section. Otherwise you can type the amount of the transfer and wait for the results to populate. Since you've also recorded a Credit Card Payment in the same amount you should see at least those two transactions in the results. Select the Transfer to open it up. From there you'll click the More button found in the dark gray banner at the bottom and hit either Void or Delete. Voiding a transaction leaves a trail, while deleting permanently erases it from the system, making it more difficult to recreate should you need to.

Another way to locate this Transfer in order to delete it, is to navigate to the Gear icon, then choose the Audit log from within the Tools header. The Audit Log is where QuickBooks Online tracks all of your account activitiy such as changes made to your books, the user that made the changes, the date and type of the change, and more. You'll want to use the Filter panel in order to search for the Transfer by specfiying the User that created it, the date or range of dates that it was created within, or the type of event. You can use as many or as little of these filters as you like, but know that the more you use the easier it'll be to locate the transaction. Once you've found it, select the blue hyperlink for Transfer and use the steps above to Delete or Void it.
