Question

I have locations turned on. How do I input a transfer of accounts with locations. There must be a field somewhere in the system to do this. Where is it?

Hi there saintstephens-tr,

I know the difference location tracking can make for business owners when logging information in their books and I'm glad to hear that you've turned on this feature in your QuickBooks Online account. I'd be happy to shed light on how this feature works in the program and what you can consider for tracking location on your accounts.

QuickBooks Online's location tracking feature has a few uses, including being able to add a Location designation to transactions and being able to set up different sales transaction templates to match those locations when needed. To illustrate, here's what you see when creating a new location.

This is useful for not only making sure your customer sees the invoice template that matches the location they're using, but also helps with tracking data in your books. When you use location tracking, you can run your reports to see things like sales and expenses for a specific site. This article lets you know how to create locations: Set up and use location tracking

This feature doesn't extend to accounts you've set up in the Chart of Accounts. To show that a certain account is for a certain location, you can consider adding the location name to the account name. For instance, I could create an account and name is something like Chequing — Main Branch so I know which funds to allocate there.

Likewise, location tracking doesn't create a field on the bank transfer feature as this is simply money movement between accounts. If you were to consider naming the accounts in the Chart of Accounts like I've mentioned above, that will help with keeping track of where money is coming from and going to. You can also consider other transfer options if that option doesn't work for you. This article goes over the various way to transfer funds in QuickBooks Online: Transfer funds between accounts

I hope that helps clarify this feature for you. Feel free to share your thoughts about it via QuickBooks Online's built-in feedback option: How do I submit feedback? This helps the product development team know what users are looking for with the program so they can consider them while making changes.

Have a great rest of your day.
