I was under the impression that I could migrate my QB Desktop file from 2010 Pro to Self-Employed, but this does not seem to be the case. Could anyone let me know if there is any data that I am able to import from Quickbooks Desktop at all?

Importing your data from QuickBooks Desktop to Self-Employed is an essential process and I'll be happy to share more info on this. 

At this time, there's no way to import data from QB Desktop to Self-Employed and the reason is that QuickBooks Self-Employed is not a double-entry bookkeeping program and it doesn't contain registers; therefore, the ability to import data from QuickBooks Desktop is not provided. However, if you were transferring to QB Online this would be possible using the steps in the article: 

Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

QBSE is a stand alone product and no migration path yet. You can only migrate from QB Desktop to QB Online.

Utilize the trial license of QB 2020 to open your 2010 data and migrate it to QBO. If you are failed to open it, call and ask Intuit Data Service to convert it. Make sure you have open a QBO account prior to call them. Should you need to resolve it in due course, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.

But should you prefer using QBSE instead, you may have very limited data type to import. You have to utilize a 3rd party tool to export the data out to get the CSV/XLS files.
