Importing Journal entries with Sales Tax

Hello,

 

Thank you in advance for reading and answering my question.

I would like to import Journal entries into QBO that include sales tax, but when we try to import them the Sales Tax column does not appear as an option in the Journal entry. 

 

I have read on previous questions that you are unable to import JE using the Sales tax column but the questions are from a few years ago, just wondering if this option is available today (January 2024)

 

If not are you aware of any work arounds?

 

The only work around I an possible think of is to post the sales tax portion to a GST/HST GL account on the import and then produce another JE (not imported) to clear this account to the actual sales tax account to have it appear on the Sales Tax report for accuracy.

 

If you could please let me know if my thinking is correct.

Hey there, Sharon2665.

 

I appreciate you turning to the Community for support. I'd be happy to provide some information.

 

I can see how having the sales tax column included on the csv file would be beneficial for you. However, this isn't an option that is available in QuickBooks. You can review a sample file to see what data will be included in the upload by heading to the "Gear" icon then clicking  "Import data", next click on "Journal entries" then open the hyperlink to "Download an example"

 

for feature suggestions, I recommend leaving feedback by clicking on the "Gear" icon, then "Feedback". These comments are taken into consideration when our developers design new features and updates for QuickBooks Online.

I agree - Importing Sales tax with journal entry data would be real nice to have as an option
