Inventory re-distribution

I buy some items in bulk and then, after this item comes in, I move it from the bulk item list to a sub-item using the inventory "adjust inventory on hand" feature.  It seems to me that there is no value change in this re-distribution but rarely is the value change "zero" as i would expect.  What is going on in the background that I'm not understanding?

The inventory adjustment option in QuickBooks is a straightforward process. Depends on what adjustment type you have chosen; the system will show you the decrease or increase of product's quantity or value after inputting the new data.

Hello

I think I understand what you are saying.  However, in my example where I have purchased 35 bikes and them moved those 35 bikes to divide them into 4 new item lines to reflect the right colourized item (the same 25 bikes with the same value), I don't understand why the value is anything other than zero.  I'm simply "moving them from one side of the room to the other", if you will.

 

I hope you can shed some light on this for me or direct me to a video/resources to explain what is happening behind the scenes on this kind of adjustment.

I'd like to add some more details about your adjustment.

 

Every line item on an inventory adjustment is calculated individually based on the data you entered. If you input 0 because these items were distributed to other lines, the system will calculate the value based on that quantity.

 

The purpose of the adjustment is mainly increasing or decreasing inventory count and value. If you distributed the quantity, the item where you moved the bikes will receive the new quantity and value. The same goes with other line items. This is to ensure your inventory has the correct count and not duplicated.
