Question

invoices not being associated with projects as income

I am a manufacturer and sell the products I manufacture on my shopify online store. The customer purchases the products on shopify where the invoices are created. I import the customers and invoices into QBO, although that is not a simple process either. The problem develops in QBO.

I have created projects in QBO, the project is ongoing and is where the product and its variants are tracked for manufacturing. I am able to create purchase orders and pay the invoices for those materials used to create the product but there are issues for another topic. I have created the product under products/services as an inventory item, but there is no way to associate the product/service to the project.

When the customer in shopify buys products, they may come from several different projects. The problem is that the income reported in QBO is not associated to the project and therefore doesn't associate the income to the project at all. All my projects show as losses since there is no income associated to it and only expenses.

Hi ganaanhighland,

Welcome to the Community. It's essential to correctly record your transactions to keep your books up to date. QuickBooks Online is a great program that gives you the ability to simply track your sales and expenses. I'd be glad to help.

For income to be associated with the project, the project needs to be attached to the invoice when creating the invoice. When you create an invoice in QuickBooks, you have the option to choose a customer associated with a project. If an invoice is created without linking it to a customer with a project, the income won't be associated with the project.

I have spent 10 hours on the phone with tech support and they can't solve the issue. They completely understand it but have no solution and blame it on limitations of the program. Completely unacceptable answer. It is a very simple fix, add a field to product/service to associate the product to the project.
