Is it possible to import historical data into QBO without automatically creating journal entries for that data?

We have a client who has been using Freshbooks for their invoicing for a few years, but we have been completing their bookkeeping in QBO. They now want to transition their invoicing to QBO.

Using the QB Connector, they can import their historical information/invoices (purchase history), including inventory and client list - BUT of course, it seems the default is that it will automatically post the journal entries, essentially double-posting everything (as the sales have already been posted).

Is there a work-around to this?

Welcome to the Community. It's essential to import your transactions to keep your books up to date. QuickBooks Online is a great program that gives you the ability to easily track your sales and expenses. I'd be glad to help.

At this time, you can import Bank data, Customers, Suppliers, Chart of Accounts ,Products and services, Invoices, Bills, and Journal entries to QuickBooks Online using csv Excel file. I encourage you to find a third-party app to complete the task you're looking for. You can click on the Apps tab on the left navigation menu >and then select Find Apps.

This is the detail I'm looking forward - you're saying that currently it is not possible to import historical invoice data without creating journal entries.

Follow-up question: Is it best to import the other details (inventory, price lists and customer information) with cvs files or using an app (like the Freshbooks Connector)? We want to be sure to NOT import the invoice data.

[Edited to Add] Are we able to set up the Freshbooks Connector to point the invoice history at specific accounts, such as dummy accounts - such as "A/R Dummy" and "Sales Dummy"? And I believe we can also have it not incorporate the tax information as well?

Thanks for getting back to us. Products and Services can be imported in QuickBooks Online using a spreadsheet in Excel or CSV. In addition, CSV or XLSX files enable you to import Customers and Suppliers seamlessly. To learn more about the FreshBooks Connector, I recommend reaching out to their support team.
