Hi jenna-tailwagger,

Knowing whether the figures you're looking at are net or gross income is helpful when you're reviewing your financials to see where you stand with your business. I want to make sure that you find the answer to this question so that you can continue to manage your books in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

When you use the mobile app for QuickBooks Self-Employed and visit the Invoices section, there are Paid and Unpaid amounts listed at the top of the screen just under the Invoices heading. I have a feeling that's what you're referring to with your question here. The amounts listed in there are the total for your invoices including the sales tax collected on them, meaning you're looking at gross figures.

To get a sense of your income without the sales tax amounts included, I recommend looking at your Profit and Loss report. Depending on whether you have an Android or Apple (iOS) mobile device, the steps to find the report in the app are a bit different. Follow along with whichever you're using below.

Run the Profit and Loss report from the iOS app

  1. Select the small profile icon in the upper left corner.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Tap Reports.
  4. Select the Profit and loss report.
  5. Enter the Time Frame.
  6. Verify the email you want to send it to.
  7. Click Send.

Run the Profit and Loss report from the Android app

  1. Select the icon that looks like three bars in the bottom left.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Tap Reports.
  4. Select the Profit and loss report.
  5. Choose the Time Frame.
  6. Verify the email you want to send it to.
  7. Click Send.

The report is then sent to you via email as a PDF document that you can review.

I hope that helps give you a sense of things in your books. Thanks for choosing QuickBooks Self-Employed and don't be afraid to stop by Community again if you have more questions. :)
