Question

Is there a feature to select multiple transactions and do batch categorization into 1 category?Particularly bank transactions downloaded to QB that are similar.

There are multiple deposits in the bank for fees received from students, different amounts, different dates.  All being Fees received, it would help to select all these receipts and then categorize as Fees received.  Currently I am categorizing each deposit individually.
Appreciate any assistance.  Thanks.

Hi asokan-s-cgma-gm,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online has the feature you need to add Bank Rules that automatically categorizes transactions for you. I'd be glad to assist!

When you add a bank rule, all transactions that match the information you've applied, will automatically be matched/categorized based on that rule to save time and speed up the review process. Here's how to get started:

1. Open Transactions from the left menu and then Banking

2. Select the Rules tab at the top of the page

3. Click on New Rule

4. Enter a Name in What do you want to call this rule?

5. From the In ▼ dropdown, select the bank account

6. Set the rule conditions. You can set a single rule with up to 5 conditions. Set and include the following, then select + Add a condition

7. Specify whether the rule applies to Description, Bank text, or Amount. Then select Contains, Doesn't contain, or Is exactly to decide how QuickBooks applies the rules

8. Select the Transaction type, Category, Tax, Tags, and the Payee to apply

9. Hit Save.

That's it! Any transactions that apply to this rule will be matched and you'll find them in the Categorized tab.  For future reference to set up bank rules in QuickBooks Online, click here.

Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any additional questions. We're always happy to help!
