Question

Is there a way to import Chart of Accounts with GIFI Code. The same as we do with number, type, detail type or tax code. Should have a separate column for GIFI.

Hello again mehul1,

This is a great question, and I can see how importing the GIFI details into your account would be useful for when you have to file taxes later. I can go over how QuickBooks Online handles GIFI codes and your options when importing the chart of accounts into the program.

Here in the QuickBooks Community, we have a handy article to guide you while you import the chart of accounts. You may have already come across it, but you can review it here as it also outlines the columns and fields you can import: Import your chart of accounts to QuickBooks Online

As you'll notice, the article doesn't include an option for GIFI mapping, which is because QuickBooks Online doesn't handle GIFI mapping on the chart of accounts. To work with GIFI mapping, an accountant user with a QuickBooks Online Accountant  (QBOA) account can help. That kind of user has access to the tools needed to work with GIFI codes and help with form filing like T2s using an add-on feature called Pro Tax.

In the event you are an accountant with a QBOA account, here are some articles that can guide you through how to work with GIFI codes.

For regular QuickBooks Online users, I recommend working with GIFI codes outside of the program if you don't have an accountant you're working with. This article from the CRA website can help: General Index of Financial Information (GIFI)

If you'd like to work with an accountant in QuickBooks Online, check out the My Accountant tab. There, you can either invite an accountant you're already working with as a user to your books or you can use the Find a pro to help button to research QuickBooks-savvy accountants near you.

I also invite you to share any feedback you have about these options using the steps outlined here: How do I submit feedback? This alerts our product development team of your ideas, which they take into consideration when making future updates.

Don't hesitate if you have further questions.
