Question

Looking to programmatically enter data into QB

We are using QB Premeier installed on a server and the intention is to program something that automatically inputs some data. Is there an API for this or are we able to access the QB database via SQL Server Management Studio?

Hi ResilientMitch,

Glad to have you reach out to us here. QuickBooks offers a dynamic platform that simplifies the way you manage your work. I'll be happy to share more info and help steer you in the right direction.

I can see the benefit of having this and I encourage you to send feedback about this to our engineers. You can do this by clicking on the Help menu and looking for Send Feedback Online. I also recommend looking into third-party apps on our site that can help you with this. You can search for these apps on our site desktop.apps.com. I suggest choosing an app that suits your business needs based on the app description and reviews.

In case you have additional questions, don't hesitate to reach back to me in the comments below. I'm here to help you achieve your QuickBooks goals.

Doing some more googling, I found this QuickBooks Desktop SDK which references API access. Would this allow us to automatically create entries into QuickBooks?

@ResilientMitch

Consider upgrading to QB Desktop Enterprise to use ODBC features and a 3rd party connector to integrate with SQL Server. Otherwise, you can only schedule data import from SQL source (DSN).
