Hi kara-walker-p3a-,

The Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Online is a great way to save time and effort when recording transactions in your books. Properly categorizing and matching your transactions is important. I'll be happy to help.

One of the Bank Feeds' awesome features is showing you if downloaded transactions match any records you’ve already entered in QuickBooks. This ensures you don't get any duplicates in your account. For the feed to display a match between transactions, dates and amounts must both be the same. The system is often good at recognizing and displaying the appropriate Payee involved, but most of the time requires some initial teaching from you to pick it up automatically down the road. You also need to manually indicate or update the appropriate Category and Tax code to make sure your transactions' details are accurate. If the payroll amount that came through your bank feed is a lump-sum, you can omit the Payee section as you'll have to Find Match to match the lump-sum amount with several corresponding paycheques ran through QBO. In case the feed displays each individual paycheques, you can manually indicate the correct Payee as well as other necessary details before matching. To assist you with that, check out this article: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online
