Hello usermarian,

This is a great question, and I'm glad to see that you've asked it before trying to set up a US company in your QuickBooks Online account. I'd be happy to go over how QuickBooks handles the different country versions and what you can do to get started tracking your US company in the program.

Each version of QuickBooks is designed for the country it's intended for. For instance, QuickBooks Online Canada can handle the bookkeeping for Canadian companies as it's configured for Canadian tax and payroll regulations from the government. This means, it won't track US taxes of any sort efficiently. While you could set up custom tax codes for the US taxes, that's a lot of extra work you don't need to do.

QuickBooks Online US is the way you'll want to go here. Like its Canadian counterpart, it's a cloud version of the software and includes many of the same features. The US version also has other features not available in Canada at this time. The important part, however, is that it's designed to support US taxes and regulations. Check it out here: QuickBooks Online US.

One recommendation I do have when creating a US account is to use new login credentials. Your login credentials are tied to your billing, so if you try to use login information that's already tied to Canadian accounts, it could cause problems. You can connect with the US QuickBooks Online Support Team if you have further questions.

I hope this clarifies the options for you. If you're ever interested in using QuickBooks for companies is other countries besides Canada and the US, check out this link: Choose your country

All the best to you!
