Can we set up a PAD (Pre-authorized debit) for one of our clients? They plan to pay x over 3 - 6 months. We would both like to automate the payments.

Hello justin66,

Automating payment options between you and your clients is a fantastic way to lighten the workload for both of you. I appreciate the brief explanation of what you're looking to set up with the program. I can go over the options for QuickBooks Online for you.

In QuickBooks Online, it's possible to accept payments via credit card for you customers using QuickBooks Payments, however that service doesn't currently include a pre-authorized debit option. If you and your client are interested in that service, what you could do is send them invoices each time they wanted to make a payment so that they could do so, or you could get their credit card details and have them sign an authorization form for you to charge the card via a sales receipt transaction instead.

The following article talks about how to do that with a recurring sales receipt transaction, which could be beneficial with the monthly payment schedule you mentioned in your last post, but you can also charge a card with a regular sales receipt transaction as well: Set up a recurring sales receipt

If you two are set on PAD payments, however, I encourage you to explore alternative options, such as through your bank or another service provider. QuickBooks Online's Apps tab includes a variety of partner applications that can connect with you services that may be able to do what you're looking for. Feel free to visit that tab and search for what's available.

I invite you to submit feedback about this using the following steps: How do I submit feedback? Our product development team loves hearing from customers the ways that they can consider enhancing the program for better bookkeeping. You're also welcome to bookmark our QuickBooks Online Feature and Product Updates page to keep an eye on what's new.

I hope this helps! I'll be around if you'd like any clarification.
