Hello we recently got a bad batch of pre printed invoices from our provider, they are all miss prininting and the first line of the invoice is printing on the black box that is pre printed on the form. I have gone into the printer set up and made the fine allignment change to get it to line up however it doesnt seem to want to keep the changes for longer then one day? Is there a way to make printer setup changes permanent? I keep forgetting to do it first thing in the morning and have over 1000 messed up invoices that I would like to still use. The invoice company is going to send us new ones for free just hate to see these go to waste.

Hello mitch8432,

Having pre-printed invoices from a supplier is a great way to ensure that you have just the design you want for your business. I'm glad to hear you've been able to configure your Print Setup in QuickBooks Desktop to work with this invoice style in the past, and I can explain why the settings don't seem to be saving as you'd like them to.

QuickBooks Desktop's Print Setup configurations save based on the form templates set up in the program. When you use customized forms created outside of the program, Desktop doesn't always know what to do to make sure things line up, so it reverts to how things look in the templates. This is likely where your problems lie.

I recommend exploring the customization options available in QuickBooks Desktop for forms such as invoices. You may find that you're able to customize these how you'd like anyway and you won't need to use the vendor for pre-printed forms any longer. It may also be useful to take a look at these options so you can try to configure them as closely to your pre-printed invoices as possible and then set the Print Setup again to match. Here's an article that guides you on customizing forms in QuickBooks Desktop: Use and customize form templates

If you can get it to work, that's great! If not, my recommendation is to switch to using the in-product form styles and template. Because the program is designed to use its own information and configurations, we can't always guarantee that pre-printed items from third parties will line up correctly. It's the same thing as with pre-printed cheques.

Give it a shot and see what you can do!
