Hello kjaspeech,

You've done a great job with troubleshooting so far and those are exactly the kinds of steps I would recommend. The QuickBooks Online app for Windows/Mac is a useful tool for accessing and using QuickBooks outside of a browser. I want to make sure you're able to do that.

The first thing you'll want to check based on the error message you're seeing is that you have an Internet connection while using the app. Although it's accessed via an icon on your desktop, it still uses an Internet connection to operate since QuickBooks works from the cloud.

Next, I recommend verifying that you're using a supported system. The QuickBooks App for Windows and Mac: General support article goes over support operating systems, devices, and other important details. This will ensure that your system can handle running the app.

Another thing you can do is check on your firewall settings and other settings like that to make sure they're not causing problems with the program accessing the data it needs. If you're not certain how to check that or verify how they play into the app's usage, touch base with an IT professional for assistance.

Finally, feel free to contact QuickBooks Online support to have one of the tech support team go over this with you. Here's how to get in touch.
