I have quickbooks desktop 2015 and have recently downloaded new version of Office 365.  I am having issues exporting a custom report to an excel spreadsheet ( we do this for our accountant as we have to wipe off client information as we keep their information confidential).  I keep geting errors when I try to export to excel.  Is QB 2015 not comptable with Office 365 ( I just downoaded that about a month or two ago)

Thanks.

Hi there,

You've come to the right place for help. I'll be happy to share more info about exporting reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

It's good you're staying updated by downloading the new version of office 365. QuickBooks makes it easy to save reports as Excel workbooks (.xlsx), CSV spreadsheets, or PDFs.

Here’s how to save QuickBooks reports so you can use them in Microsoft Excel.

Export a report

  1.     In QuickBooks, go to the Reports menu and select Reports Center.
  2.     Find and open any report.
  3.     Select the Excel on the toolbar. You can also select Print or Email to save the report as a PDF.
  4. To create a new Excel workbook, select Create New Worksheet. If you want to update an existing workbook with the data in the open report, select Update Existing Worksheet. Select Browse and then find the workbook on your computer. Keep in mind, this overwrites the existing workbook.
  5. If you want to format the data a specific way, select Advanced. This is optional.
  6. When you’re ready to export, select OK. To open the report in Excel, you can also select Export.

It's also important to note the following:

  • The report must have less than 256 columns.
  • If you see a message that says your report has too many columns, select Advanced. Select and uncheck the Space between columns checkbox, then select OK.
  • You can also save your report as a CSV instead of an Excel workbook and have more columns.

If you're tried the steps above and you're still getting errors, I recommend contacting our support team for assistance. The number to dial is 1-877-772-9158 and the hours of operation are 24/7 so you can call at your earliest convenience.

Feel free to ask other questions. I'm here to help. :)

Thanks for your imput, however  I do know how to export to excel, as I have been doing it for a number of years for my accountant.  I have just come across an issue this year with an error dialogue box coming up when I try to export my customized report to an exisiting excel workbook.  i am wondering if my 2015 version of quickbooks is not compatable with the new Microsoft excel, or if I need some sort of update, or if there is some sort of other issue that I am not aware of as to why I am running into errors boxes when trying to export to an excel sheet.

Thanks again.

I see what you're saying. I want to make sure we're on the same page. What's the error message you're getting?
