QB automatically downloaded an update some time ago, which I ignored until today.
RE: QBDT Pro 2022 (Canada) on Windows 7 Pro (R10_66) - Update for Internet Explorer phase-out won't allow me to open QuickBooks now.
I started QBDT today after a long vacation and was prompted to install the MANDATORY update (no more ignoring it). It ran the update with two warnings (one of which was: "Error 1904.Module "C\Program Files (x86) \Intuit\QuickBooks2020\QBPrefs.dll" failed to register" ). After "retry"-ing to install the files it warned me about- which repeatedly failed - I "Ignore"-ed them. I received a pop-up that said: Your version of QuickBooks 2020 is now up to date". Now, QuickBooks will not open. Nothing! If I try to open from the Company File I get the QB circle and some dots and then it just stops loading. I have restarted the PC but there is no difference.
I figured this might happen so I kept a backup file on a "no auto update" version of the same software and OS on another PC. I can work off of it for awhile. But this is absolutely insane. I couldn't get any help from customer service or tech support before (I don't think they exist anymore), regarding the compatibility of the update with v2020 on Win7; which is why I put off the update for so long.
Would anyone from QuickBooks like to help, or am I basically on my own from here on - until I prepare a Windows 10 unit and get a new software installation file from QB?
Maybe @JamesM4 can assist. He seems to have commented on similar installation and update situations before here. I am relatively new to this support forum. I used to have an unlimited support package but I cancelled it some time ago. I really don't have time to search or experiment with ideas; I just want to get back to work on this PC.
