How do I post Canada Border services agency GST charges on purchases made in the U.S. I was told to post GST payable, but QB says I can't.  Then when I thought I finally had it figured out....it's posted to the wrong account - not showing to file GST taxes

Hello Bkpr2024,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Desktop enables you to record sales tax only transactions, for imported goods.  I would be happy to help!

1. Select Enter Bills from the Home screen

2. Open the Expenses tab

3. Choose an expense account related to imported goods from the Accounts ▼ dropdown menu

4. Enter 0.01 in the Amount column

5. Select the tax code that represents all taxes paid

6. On the second line, choose the same account as before from the Accounts drop-down

7. Enter -0.01 for the Amount

8. Choose the same tax code again

9. Edit the amount in the sales tax field to match the sales tax charged at customs

10. Select Save & Close.

Note; You will need to create a vendor for customs in order to be able to save the transaction.  Proceed to the Pay Bills feature to complete the recording of this payment.

Feel free to reach back out with any other questions.  We would be glad to assist!
