I received a tip as an over payment for a invoice.  To record the tip, I created a new invoice for it as per QBO instructions however it will not let me save the invoice without selecting a sales tax amount.  Which sales tax category should I select to not alter the tip amount?

Hi MG04,

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Online provides the features you need to complete your bookkeeping goals with peace of mind.  I'd be happy to assist!

After you've created an income account to track tips, you'll need a product/service to add to your forms.  Once these have been set up, you can apply the credit to the invoice by following these steps;

1. Open +New from the left menu and select Invoice

2. Enter the Customer name

3. In the Products/Services field, choose the tip item you created

4. If you haven't turned on the feature to automatically apply credits, select Receive Payment

5. Select the Credit and then hit Save and close.

Here's a helpful guide to assist you with recording an invoice overpayment as a tip.
