Is there a way to restrict a user's access to attachments? If someone has access to the Chart of Accounts, they can look at any attachment even a balance is not showing. For instance, if a user is restricted from payroll. they can click on the bank statements attached to the bank account and view payroll checks.

Hello hogman,

Managing the access of those who are working on your company file is a great way to make sure data is being entered properly and that users are able to focus on the specific areas they need. QuickBooks Desktop Canada offers a solid range of customization options and I'll gladly go over them here.

Depending on which version of QuickBooks Desktop you're using, the customization options can get pretty detailed. For instance, Pro and Premier offer a good basic range of customization and restriction options, but Enterprise is where you can really get into the thick of it.

When you say you'd like to restrict a user's access to attachments, I read this two ways. The first way being that you'd like the user to only see attachments and the second being that you'd like to restrict the user from seeing attachments. In both cases, these are not specifications that can be set up in QuickBooks Desktop user profiles at this time.

I encourage you to take a look at the following article, and the linked article about Enterprise user roles, to learn more about what you can and can't do with user accesses: QuickBooks Desktop Users and Restrictions

Feel free to leave us some feedback if you don't find you can set up quite the way you're looking to do so. To do so, you can select Help in QuickBooks Desktop and then Send Feedback Online.

Let me know if you have more questions! Have a great weekend. :)
